Three individuals have picked up petitions to run for Commissioner in ANC 7D01: Benjamin Bennett, Lisa White (co-maintainer of this blog), and Veronica Raglin.
FULL DISCLOSURE: Both Ms. White and Bob Coomber, author of this post and co-maintainer of this blog are supporters of Ms. White’s candidacy for ANC SMD 7D01.
ANC stands for “Advisory Neighborhood Commission.” Each commission is comprised of two to fifteen members who represent “Single Member Districts,” or SMDs. Three to six commissions make up a Ward, which is controlled by a councilmember. Commission 7D has 7 Commissioners. Most of Kingman Park is in Ward Seven, Commission D, SMD 1, hence ANC 7D01.
Candidates will have to collect 25 signatures from people who currently reside in the SMD boundaries. Petitions and signatures are subject to challenge for ten days beginning on the third day after the filing deadline. ANC commissioners also must currently and continuously live in the SMD for at least 60 days “preceding the day on which he files the nominating petitions as a candidate.” DC ST § 1-309.05(a)(1)(A) and (B). Commissioners may not hold other elected offices. Id. at (C).

I can not wait to support Lisa White again. I have been a proud Kingman Park resident for five years now. Before Lisa took office I didn’t get notifications of the goings-on in the community.
Now we are informed, updated, and empowered. Lisa White will have my vote!
Correction: the “A” in ANC stands for “Advisory”; not Area. I too am a supporter of Lisa White and stand ready to help. For the first time in many many years, I feel like a valued member of a democratic community who doesn’t have to “:walk in lockstep” in order to get along with a tyranical leadership.
Thanks Linda. I made the correction.
