According to the Washington City Paper and firsthand accounts, Spingarn High School was unanimously approved by the District Historic Preservation Review Board. This decision may affect the appearance of the Streetcar Barn, planned to be located on Spingarn’s grounds at 26th and Benning, but will not likely affect its location.
According to the City Paper and a staff report by the HPRB, as long as certain criteria are met re the design of the building, the carbarn will likely still be built as planned. Delays to the streetcar will be minimal, besides the 3 months or so the historic designation question has already put back the start date for the streetcar.
The carbarn and how it fits in with the historic plan will be addressed in a separate hearing, likely in January.
