The Friends of the Rosedale Library (FORL) will host a general meeting on Monday, June 17th at 6 p.m. at the Rosedale Library (1701 Gales Street NE).

We hope you can join us to learn about about upcoming Library activities including the DC Summer Reading Program for everyone from babies to children, teens and adults; weekly baby and toddler reading sessions; the monthly Book Club; the Teen Advisory Group and other activities.  We’ll discuss fundraising ideas, outreach and membership, and what materials and programs you want to see at the Library.

As with all DC Public Library Friends groups, our mission is to promote programs, services and events at the Library, raise funds for materials and Library events, recruit volunteers, and advocate for the Rosedale Branch and for the DC Public Library System.

Beginning Monday, June 3^rd, the DC Streetcar construction team will implement traffic restrictions on Benning Road between Oklahoma Avenue and Anacostia Avenue to facilitate installation of Overhead Catenary System (OCS) foundations. The OCS foundations are installed in the ground at designated points to provide a base for mounting the poles and wiring that deliver power to run the streetcars.

The restrictions on the north and south sides of Benning Road will be in effect for approximately three weeks each.  Work along the south side of Benning Road will begin on June 3^rd, followed by the north side of Benning Road later in the week.

The restrictions are as follows:

Ø  The south-side sidewalk from Oklahoma to Anacostia (a distance of about a half-mile including the Benning Road Bridge across the Anacostia River) will be closed to pedestrians during much of this period. The north-side sidewalk will be closed periodically. The construction team will make every effort to maintain sidewalk access along at least one side of Benning Road at all times. Signs will be installed to direct pedestrians to the accessible sidewalk.

Ø  The X1/X3 and X2 bus stops on the south side of Benning Road (just west of the entrance to the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail) will be temporarily suspended during this period. As an alternative, bus passengers will be directed to the next bus stop, on Benning Road at 34^th Street.

Ø  From Oklahoma Avenue to Anacostia Avenue, eastbound Benning Road traffic will be reduced to a single lane – the  middle and right lanes will be closed. Left turns and U-turns will not be permitted at any point along the work zone.

Ø  Access to and from RFK Stadium’s Lot 6 parking lot along Benning Road will be prohibited. Access to Lot 6 will be maintained via Oklahoma Avenue.

Ø  Eastbound and westbound motorists may continue to turn from Benning Road onto Oklahoma Avenue.

( Washington, DC)- The Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Transportation would like to inform the public of street closures due to the  34th Capitol Classic 10K Race scheduled for Sunday, May 19, 2013.

Capitol Hill Classic 10K Race

On Sunday, May 19, 2013, the 34th Capitol Hill Classic 10K Race will hold its Annual Run. The race will begin at approximately 8:30 am until 11:30 am.

The following streets will be closed starting at 5:30 am for set-up:

§ Stanton Park on C Street, SE between 4th and 6th Street, Northeast (south side)

Race Route:

§ Starting at south side of Stanton Park located at 5th and C Streets, Southeast

§ North on 4th Street, Northeast

§ West on C Street, Northeast

§ South on 2nd Street, Northeast

§ West on Constitution Avenue, Northeast

§ South on First Street, Northeast

§ East on East Capitol Street, Southeast

§ South on 22nd Street, SE

§ Merge right into Lot 7 of RFK parking Lot to River Trail

§ Return will be back to East Capitol Street, Southeast

§ North on 3rd Street, SE

§ Right on Maryland Avenue, Northeast to finish line at Stanton Park
