34TH CAPITOL HILL CLASSIC 10K RACE

( Washington, DC)- The Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Transportation would like to inform the public of street closures due to the  34th Capitol Classic 10K Race scheduled for Sunday, May 19, 2013.

Capitol Hill Classic 10K Race

On Sunday, May 19, 2013, the 34th Capitol Hill Classic 10K Race will hold its Annual Run. The race will begin at approximately 8:30 am until 11:30 am.

The following streets will be closed starting at 5:30 am for set-up:

§ Stanton Park on C Street, SE between 4th and 6th Street, Northeast (south side)

Race Route:

§ Starting at south side of Stanton Park located at 5th and C Streets, Southeast

§ North on 4th Street, Northeast

§ West on C Street, Northeast

§ South on 2nd Street, Northeast

§ West on Constitution Avenue, Northeast

§ South on First Street, Northeast

§ East on East Capitol Street, Southeast

§ South on 22nd Street, SE

§ Merge right into Lot 7 of RFK parking Lot to River Trail

§ Return will be back to East Capitol Street, Southeast

§ North on 3rd Street, SE

§ Right on Maryland Avenue, Northeast to finish line at Stanton Park

All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions.

Motorists could encounter possible delays if operating in the vicinity of these events and may wish to consider alternative routes. The Metropolitan Police Department and the D.C. Department of Transportation also wish to remind motorists in the vicinity of this event to proceed with caution as increased pedestrian traffic can be anticipated.

Over 20 neighborhood children ages 1-15 years old enjoyed some Easter fun at the Kingman Park-Rosedale Community Garden.

Thanks to residents Nicole Coomber, Mandie Yanasak Worsley, Jalila Simmons, Herrin Hopper, Kathleen Moore, and Commissioner Lisa White, as well as generous contributions from other neighbors, who helped make the event such a success.

Street Closings for the 2013 Annual Rock N Roll USA Marathon and Half Marathon

(Washington, DC) The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has provided the following information about scheduled street closures for the 2013 Rock N Roll USA Marathon and Half Marathon that will be held in the District of Columbia on Saturday, March 16, 2013.

In order to facilitate this event there will be no vehicular traffic allowed along the routes of the races. However, there will be bump routes that will allow vehicles to cross when runners are not present. The races are scheduled to begin at approximately 7:25 a.m.; however some street closures will begin as early as 12:00 a.m. around the start and finish line. All streets affected by this event are expected to be reopened as early as 9:30 a.m., and no later than 2:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect delays during the races. Citizens who have issues that need resolution or if there are any questions regarding traffic access points during the races are advised to please call 202-727-9099.

Streetcar Construction in Kingman Park Starting Mon. Feb. 25-March 1, 2013

Test Pit Excavation

On Monday, February 25 through Friday March 1, work crews will dig five small test pits within a one-block location of Benning Road NE in order to coordinate proposed utility placement. The impacts will include:

Eastbound Benning Road between 24th and 25th Streets:

Left lane closure, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Pedestrian crosswalk at eastbound Benning and 24th Street:

Sidewalk closure, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Parking on eastbound Benning Road between 21st and 26th Streets: Parking closure. In order to keep two lanes of traffic flowing down eastbound Benning Road the curb lane between 21st and 26th streets will be closed for parking and it will become a travel lane.

Media Removal

On Monday, February 25 through Friday March 8, work crews will continue to remove portions of the median on the middle and eastern end of the Hopscotch Bridge in advance of future streetcar platform construction at the same locations. The impacts will include:

Hopscotch Bridge and 3rd Street Bridge approach on H Street, Eastbound:

Left lane closures, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Hopscotch Bridge and 3rd Street Bridge approach on H Street, Westbound:

Left lane closures, 9:30 am – 6:00 pm
