National Get Outdoors Day is looking for local organizations and agencies to provide exciting hands-on activities and programs for youth and adults at the 2011 event. 2010 National Get Outdoors Day exhibitors included: REI, Calleva, National Park Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, District Department of the Environment, Anacostia Wastershed Society and many more!

Truck Touch Event

While at National Get Outdoors Day, be sure to check out the Truck Touch event. This event will take place from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and is sponsored by the District of Columbia’s Department of Public Works. Come experience the high-tech equipment and vehicles used to provide vital city services. Learn how they operate to serve you better. Kids can climb aboard, work the gears, and honk the horn!
The District of Columbia Government presents vehicles used by the Department of Public Works, Department of Transportation, Department of Parks and Recreation, Metropolitan Police Department, District of Columbia Fire and EMS, and the Homeland Security and Emergency Management Administration.

Come enjoy Bluegrass and Folk music at Kingman and Heritage Islands Park at the 2nd Annual Kingman Island Bluegrass & Folk Festival on June 11, 2011. This event will be FREE and open to the public. There will be food from DC’s most popular food trucks, beer and wine from local vendors, a free shuttle to the island from Stadium/Armory Metro Station, bike giveaways and tours of the island from Bicycle Space. In addition to the music, visitors will have the opportunity to join in on activities offered at the National Get Outdoors Day event that will be occurring at the park.
