Safe Haven means that a mother or parent of a newborn can leave an unwanted infant at a safe location LIKE a fire station, hospital, or you may even give the baby to a responsible person who would then be obligated to report the incident and surrender the infant to Child and Family Services Agency (CFSA). The parents can do this without revealing their identities or facing abandonment charges -which they would otherwise be facing if the infant had been left on a door step, dumpster, or somewhere else. This also means that the life of their child would be saved and a death would be prevented.
A parent surrendering a baby at a safe location and/or WITH a responsible person shall not be prosecuted for surrendering the child. Even so, it is important to give the receiving person information about health, DOB, or other family information- you as the parents may remain anonymous.
